Innovation in Paediatric Drug Development
The European Forum for Good Clinical Practice (EFGCP) “Better Medicines for Children” Conference 2025, taking place on 21-22 October 2025 at the NH Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Hotel. The Conference will focus on “Innovation in Paediatric Drug Development as a Driver for Change”, bringing together global experts from all over the world to discuss the latest advancements and solutions in paediatric research. The conference will start on 21 October with a keynote from a parent on the impact of trial participation, followed by discussions on paediatric chronic kidney disease, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in drug development, and evolving European legislation. On 22 October, global experts will discuss Europe’s role in paediatric research, offering innovative insights into successful drug development. TEDDY Experts at the Conference on 21 October
The conference was organised by a committee made up of internationally renowned experts in the field of paediatric research.
Professor Oscar Della Pasqua is Executive Director of Clinical Pharmacology at GSK and serves as a member of TEDDY Board of Directors. His research focuses on personalised medicine and the use of quantitative approaches to evaluate medicinal products in clinical development. Professor Oscar Della Pasqua will participate in Breakout Session 1 on Paediatric Extrapolation to discuss applying adult clinical data to paediatric populations.
TEDDY is also a member of the European Paediatric Transnational Research Infrastructure (EPTRI). Dr. Sandra Brasil, Medical Devices Thematic Research Platform Referent, will actively participate in Breakout Session 3 on Paediatric Medical Devices, as a representative of EPTRI, she will discuss medical devices specifically designed for children. On behalf of TEDDY, Dr. Donato Bonifazi, a member of the TEDDY Board of Directors and Chair of the TEDDY Working Group on Children Empowerment and Engagement, contributed his expertise to the organising committee.
TEDDY specialises in patient-centred research, addressing the real-life challenges faced by young patients and their families within the healthcare system. It is committed to empowering young people by actively involving them in their healthcare decisions. Leveraging expertise in the European Paediatric Medicine Database, TEDDY provides comprehensive access to crucial data, enabling informed decision-making and driving advanced research to meet the specific needs of paediatric healthcare. In addition, TEDDY’s expertise includes mitigating off-label use, the development of innovative paediatric therapies, and the promotion of paediatric research conducted according to the highest ethical and methodological standards, with the ultimate goal of advancing novel therapies that address unmet medical needs.
Dr. Bonifazi’s expertise will be pivotal in shaping the discussions during Breakout Session 2, which will focus on innovative approaches in clinical trials for small populations, emphasising the unique challenges and opportunities in developing treatments for rare and underserved patient groups. In Session 4, which will explore the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the paediatric data ecosystem, Dr. Bonifazi’s leadership will guide the discussion on the practical and ethical integration of AI technologies in healthcare data management.
