GAPP Study: Bringing Science, Safety and Young Patient Perspectives Together in Paediatric Research
As part of the TEDDY General Assembly and Scientific Meeting 2026, taking place on 18–20 September 2026 at University of Bari, Italy, Piazza Cesare Battisti, 1, 70121 Bari BA. TEDDY will host a dedicated round table on “The GAPP Study: Applying Innovative Methodologies in Paediatric Clinical Research – Roundtable with members from the Study Steering Committee, the Data Safety Monitoring Board and the Patient Advisory Board” on 18 September 2026 from 18:00 to 19:30 in BaLab Room.
GAPP Study is a multicentre, non-profit Phase III clinical study sponsored by TEDDY Network, involving paediatric hospitals and research institutions across France, Albania, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland. The study uses an innovative single-arm Bayesian adaptive design and individualised dose optimisation strategy to address the challenges of generating evidence in a heterogeneous paediatric population with chronic neuropathic, nociplastic or mixed pain.
The round table will bring together experts involved in different aspects of the GAPP study and its governance bodies, including:
- Study steering Committee (SSC) Members including Dr. Anna Szumowska (IPCZD Warsaw), Prof Oscar Della Pasqua, a member of the TEDDY Board of Directors, legal representative of TEDDY Stichting and Chair in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics at University College London, UK
- Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) Members including Dr. Paola Baiardi (ICS Maugeri), and Prof. Evelyne Jacqz-Aigrain (Université Paris Cité).

- TEDDY representatives: Dr. Eleonora Di Campi (Clinical Project manager, TEDDY Network), Dr. Giorgio Reggiardo, Scientific Advisor of GAPP, Chair of the TEDDY Working Group on Paediatric Research Methodologies and a member of the TEDDY Board of Directors.
Moderated by Dr Eleonora Di Campi, the session will provide a structured multidisciplinary discussion on the opportunities and challenges of the GAPP study and its innovative methodological approach. The discussion will explore how the different governance bodies can contribute, from their respective perspectives, to:
- safeguarding participants,
- ensuring scientific and methodological robustness,
- supporting the interpretation of data in a heterogeneous paediatric population, and
- keeping study procedures feasible and acceptable for children and their families.
The session will provide an opportunity to identify practical challenges, strengthen communication between governance bodies and explore how integrated governance and meaningful patient engagement can support the responsible implementation of innovative methodologies in paediatric clinical research.
