Showcasing TEDDY’s contributions to innovative paediatric clinical research
The TEDDY – European Network of Excellence for Paediatric Clinical Research will participate in the EPTRI General Assembly and Scientific Meeting 2026, taking place on 28 – 29 July 2026 at the Children’s Memorial Health Institute (CMHI) in Warsaw, Poland. The meeting will bring together European Paediatric Transnational Research Infrastructure (EPTRI), members and stakeholders to discuss future directions in paediatric research, including advanced therapies, innovative methodologies, digital health, AI, real-world data, and regulatory challenges.
TEDDY contributes to the advancement of paediatric research in Europe through its role as an EPTRI member hugely involved in the EPTRI Central Management Office (CMO).
During the EPTRI Scientific Meeting, Donato Bonifazi, Chair of the TEDDY Network, and member of EPTRI Board of Directors, will deliver an oral presentation entitled “ACT-EU (Accelerating Clinical Trials in the European Union) Initiative – Multi-Stakeholder Approach to Accelerate Clinical Trials”. The presentation will provide an overview of the ACT-EU initiative and its multi-stakeholder approach to accelerating clinical trials in Europe.
TEDDY is a permanent academic member of the ACT EU Multi-Stakeholder Platform Advisory Group, represented by Donato Bonifazi. Through this role, TEDDY contributes to the initiative’s strategic direction and supports collaboration among key stakeholders.
TEDDY will also contribute to the poster session under the theme “Advancing Paediatric Clinical Research: Innovative Methodologies and Clinical Research Networks”, presenting two posters that reflect the network’s commitment to methodological innovation and meaningful patient involvement in paediatric research.
The first poster, “Use of Synthetic Control Arms (SCAs) in Clinical Trials as a Promising Approach for Generating Evidence”, explores the potential of synthetic control arms as an innovative methodology for generating robust evidence in paediatric and rare disease clinical research, where conventional trial designs are often challenging. The research work was developed by TEDDY Network members, Giorgio Reggiardo (TEDDY Network), Viviana Giannuzzi (Gianni Benzi Pharmacological Research Foundation, FGB), Claudia Pansieri (Clinical Validation from Biopharmaceutical Findings, CVBF), Mariagrazia Felisi (Clinical Validation from Biopharmaceutical Findings, CVBF), Donato Bonifazi (TEDDY Network), and Adriana Ceci (Gianni Benzi Pharmacological Research Foundation, FGB).
The second poster, “From Patient Voices to Clinical Study Design: TEDDY KIDS Network and the Patients Advisory Board (PAB) in the Gabapentin in Paediatric Pain (GAPP) Study,” highlights the TEDDY structured engagement model, codified in the TEDDY Charter, and its role in integrating patient-centred principles into clinical research, as demonstrated through the GAPP Study. The implementation of this model is supported by the TEDDY Working Group on Engagement and Advocacy coordinated by Donato Bonifazi, in collaboration with the TEDDY KIDS Network, which brings together nine Young Persons’ Advisory Groups (YPAGs) across Europe. The poster highlights their contribution to the establishment and activities of the Patients Advisory Board (PAB) within the GAPP Study.
TEDDY’s participation in the EPTRI General Assembly and Scientific Meeting 2026 reflects its continued commitment to scientific excellence, collaboration, and innovation, while contributing to the advancement of paediatric clinical research and the development of better therapies for children across Europe.
